Peters Trying to Cap Stellar Year With EPT Win

Nível 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
David Peters
David Peters

The final PokerStars European Poker Tour Main Event is down to just 65 runners in Prague, and it's American star David Peters who lapped the field on Day 3 of the event to build a monstrous chip lead.

Peters is eyeing his first EPT Main Event crown, though he did win a €10,000 High Roller in Malta last year for €597,000. If he's able to win, it would be a fitting end to what's been a spectacular year for Peters. He has banked a staggering $6.85 million in cashes and also bagged his first bracelet by winning a $1,500 World Series of Poker event for $412,557.

The Ohio native finished the five levels of play with 2,036,000. Nobody is within shouting distance of that, with other big stacks including Stoyan Obreshkov (1,356,000), Andrew Hulme (1,050,000), Apostolos Bechrakis (985,000), and Kyosti Isberg (960,000).

Peters entered the day with 305,000 and had that doubled in the second level. He was seated at by far the deepest-stacked table in the room, which worked to his advantage when he was able to bust Oleg Vasylchenko. Peters had called an opening raise, and Vasylchenko three-bet from the cutoff. The two saw a {9-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} flop and got stacks in with Peters' set of sevens trailing his opponent's {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a flopped straight. No waiting for Peters, as he found a six on the turn to lock up the massive pot and move to almost 200 big blinds.

Another victim of the Peters show was Joseph Sabe, who provided the last boost to Peters' stack when he jammed 14 big blinds in late with deuces and had Peters wake up with tens in the blinds to bust him moments before bagging time.

Matas Cimbolas, PokerStars Team Pro Felipe Ramos, Martin Kabrhel, Maxim Lykov, Salvatore Bonavena, Simon Charette, Fabrice Soulier and Benjamin Pollak all remain in contention.

Kabrhel battled for much of the day with Philipp Gruissem, who was seated on his left. The two spent some time at the featured table and butted heads in a number of pots. Eventually, Kabrhel got the better of the German high-rolling star, but he had a stroke of good fortune to thank. The two got stacks in from late position with Kabrhel's ace-ten dominated by ace-king, but a ten-high flop doomed Gruissem.

Gruissem did get paid for his efforts as everyone who busted on Day 3 was in the money. Others making their way to payouts included [Removed:17], Ludovic Lacay, Thomas Muehloecker, Juha Helppi, Jason Wheeler, Ari Engel, Anton Wigg, PokerStars Team Pro Vanessa Selbst, and start-of-day leader Nicolas Chouity.

Action continues Saturday with five more levels of 90 minutes apiece, so come on back to PokerNews for more coverage.

The TV crew had been several times over to catch the action on the previous live stream table, mainly because Martin Kabrhel was running the show over there with plenty of table talk. He said in table chat "Philipp? I would bust him with pleasure," referring to table neighbor Philipp Gruissem.

He then raised to 22,000 from the button and Gruissem three-bet to 56,000 from the button with a stack of around 235,000. Kabrhel had that covered with 275,000 and moved all in, Gruissem called.

Philipp Gruissem: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Martin Kabrhel: {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

"You think you gonna hit your three outer?" Kabrhel said even though he was behind and needed to improve himself. The flop fell {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Kabrhel quickly said "see?" Neither the {3-Spades} turn nor the {6-Diamonds} river improved Gruissem and he was eliminated.

Peters Busts Vasylchenko in Biggest Pot to Date

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Oleg Vasylchenko
Oleg Vasylchenko

Oleg Vasylchenko had half a million in chips at the last break, but that has since been reduced to zero and David Peters emerged as the first chip millionaire.

After a raise to 14,000, Peters called and Vasylchenko then three-bet to 50,000 from the cutoff. The initial raiser folded, but Peters called and headed to a flop of {9-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}. Peters checked, Vasylchenko bet 45,000 and then faced the check-raise all in by Peters. After some consideration, the Russian called.

Oleg Vasylchenko: {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
David Peters: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

Vasylchenko was still ahead with the straight, but that all changed on the {6-Clubs} turn to leave him drawing dead. While the {K-Spades} river fell, Vasylchenko had already walked away from the table in disbelief.

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Dermot Blain
Dermot Blain

Ramin Hajiyev opened to 12,000 and short stack Padraig O'Neill pushed for 45,000. Sergei Petrushevskii reshoved all in from the cutoff and the action folded to Dermot Blain in the small blind, who called for his last 255,000. Blain almost turned over his cards, but Hajiyev said "wait, I am still in the hand. I am 99% sure it is a fold, but have to check again," then folded.

Padraig O'Neill: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Dermot Blain: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Sergei Petrushevskii: {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}

The flop fell {J-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} improved Petrushevskii to a set, and the {2-Clubs} turn and {9-Hearts} river were both bricks to knock out two Irishman at once. Petrushevskii joined the big stacks as a result after starting Day 2 in the middle of the pack.

Pedro Lamarca
Pedro Lamarca

The PokerStars European Poker Tour is ending its chapter in history in style, as EPT Prague, the tour's final Main Event, attracted a record field of 1,192 for the festival in the Czech capital. The field entering today has since shrunk to 231 players, or the exact amount of players to reach the money in the tournament.

Yesterday ended a little later than scheduled since as time was ticking down for the day, the tournament moved into hand-for-hand mode with players anticipating the bubble to break with 232 players left. After several players survived all ins, Attila Valentai was the last player to finish outside the money when his ace-king was unable to out-flip his opponent's pocket eights despite a king appearing on the flop.

While everyone returning today is guaranteed a share of the massive prize pool of €5,781,200 and at least a minimum cash of €7,560, many have their eyes on the first-place payout of €774,600 which will be awarded to the last man or woman standing on Day 6.

The 2010 EPT Grand Final Main Event champion Nicolas Chouity enters today sitting in the lead with 644,000 in chips to his name. Other big stacks heading into Day 3 include Eduards Kudrjavcevs (547,000), Nandor Solyom (526,500), Matas Cimbolas (481,500), Pedro Lamarca (480,000), Apostolos Bechrakis (478,500), Ludovic Lacay (438,000), Thomas Muehloecker (430,000), Samuel Vousden (428,500), Artur Rudziankov (415,500) and Benjamin Pollak (407,500).

Some big name players also returning for action today on Day 3 include Pablo Gordillo (313,000), David Peters (305,000), Fabrice Soulier (200,000), [Removed:197] (199,500), Juha Helppi (179,000), Ari Engel (106,500) and the Team PokerStars Pros Felipe Ramos (106,500) and Vanessa Selbst (69,000).

Players will begin with Level 15 (2,000/4,000/500) at the start of play and are scheduled to play five levels with breaks taking place after each level. Blind levels will increase every 90 minutes instead of every 75 minutes as been the case the previous days.

Stay tuned to PokerNews throughout the day for live updates to see how the final EPT Main Event shakes out as players get deeper into the money.
