Marc Macdonnell Leads Final 23 in EPT Prague Main Event

Nível 24 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Marc Macdonnell
Marc Macdonnell

Irishman Marc Macdonnell took the chip lead on Day 4 in the 2015 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Prague Main Event. Macdonnell will take 3.6 million in chips to the penultimate day, followed by Gleb Tremzin with 3.535 million and Benjamin Lamprecht with 3.19 million. Just 23 players remain.

The day started with 69 competitors. In the first level, no less than 19 were knocked out. Clyde Tjauw Foe from the Netherlands was the first to go, followed by Team PokerStars Pro Ivan Demidov and then Ben Dobson. Portuguese pro Joao Vieira and Jeffrey Hakim were also among the early bust outs, and the field was thinned quickly of pros.

Two-time EPT Prague finalist David Boyacyian came into the day with a short stack, but was looking to continue his quest for a third final table in this event. He was knocked out in 57th place for €13,720, though, with the Dutchman losing out with pocket tens against Kitty Kuo's eights. Despite the win in that hand, it wasn't the start of a big upswing for Kuo. She ultimately busted in 47th place, but did cash to follow up her cashes in the EPT Barcelona and EPT Malta main events this season.

Ramin Hajiyev, who took third in the €25,500 Single-Day High Roller for €250,900 earlier this week, busted in 45th for €16,200. He was followed by Belarusian pro Anton Astapau in 43rd. Astapau made two big final tables at the 2015 Asia Championship of Poker for a total just shy of half a million dollars, but he didn't make the fifth day of play in Prague.

The biggest storyline of the day was that of Niall Farrell, who came off winning the most recent EPT in Malta for €534,330. Farrell went through big swings on Day 4, and those swings ultimately resulted in him crashing down in 40th place for €16,200. Farrell folded top set on the river to a shove with straight and flush possibilities on the board against Macdonnell, and from there he never recovered.

The highest grossing live tournament player left in the field was Andrew Chen, but he got knocked out in 38th place for €19,040. The Canadian pro, with $4.5 million in live tournament earnings and both an EPT and World Series of Poker runner-up finish, sat on a short stack for many hours, before busting with jack-ten to Lukasz Mroczek's pocket sevens.

The biggest pot of the day was played out on the featured table between Ori Miller and Benjamin Lamprecht, and the latter got all his chips into the middle holding pocket queens. Unfortunately for him, Miller showed pocket aces for a pot worth 2.7 million and Lamprecht was well behind. But as fortunes had it, a queen came on the flop to give Lamprecht the chip lead for the time being.

Shortly thereafter, Tremzin took over the chip lead when he knocked out Robert Layne III, and the only player to surpass him was Macdonnell.

Macdonnell had a stellar day and didn't back down from battles with many of the players that are still going strong. His biggest live tournament result came earlier this year when he finished second in a WSOP gold bracelet event for $155,876, but he'll have a big opportunity to land his own personal best as a first-place prize worth €921,540 is at stake in this event.

Play will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 12 p.m. CET. That's when the last EPT main event of the calendar year will play down to its final six, and the PokerNews Live Reporting team will be with you every step of the way. Stay tuned!

Ori Miller

The action just folded to Ori Miller in the small blind, and he moved all in on Javier Gomez in the big blind. Miller's shove was for 420,000 and Gomez made the call after tanking for a while.

Miller: {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Gomez: {A-Spades}{6-Clubs}

The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{K-Clubs} and Miller was knocked out after having had a big stack for most of the tournament. A little while ago Miller lost with aces versus Benjamin Lamprecht's queens for the chip lead, and right now he's on his way to the exit.

Robert Layne III Makes His Exit in Chip Lead Pot

Nível 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Robert Layne III
Robert Layne III

We got there on the river but Onur Unsal was so kind to talk us through the hand afterwards.

Robert Layne III opened the cutoff for 40,000 and Gleb Tremzin in the small blind three-bet to 110,000. Layne III made the call and the two were heads up.

Tremzin would fire three bullets. 125,000 on the {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop, 205,000 on the {8-Diamonds} turn and all in for effectively around 540,000 on the {6-Diamonds} river.

Layne III called the flop and turn and tanked for a bit on the river before he eventually called by tossing in some blue chips. He would soon need to part ways with the rest of his chips as well as Tremzin showed {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}.

"Fours full?" Layne III said while he open mucked his {10-Spades}{Q-Spades}. Layne III exits in 29th place, good for €21,920. A small bubble now as the player that exits in 28th place takes home that same €21,920, while the number 27th takes home €25,770.

Lamprecht Chip Leader After Crushing Miller's Aces

Nível 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Ori Miller
Ori Miller

After unknown action we picked things up as Ori Miller was facing a four-bet from Benjamin Lamprecht to 276,000 from the small blind. Miller had 112,000 invested from the cutoff and after a while he made it 382,000.

Miller then shoved on his opponent, and Lamprecht called it off for 1,335,000 total, creating the biggest pot of the tournament so far.

Miller: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}
Lamprecht: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}

The flop brought {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, and Miller's head dropped down as he saw the queen pop up. The turn was the {9-Spades} and the river the {4-Clubs}, and Miller was left behind with very little chips. Lamprecht is the new tournament chip leader, with more than 2.7 million.

Unsal Doesn't Fold Second Pair to a Triple Barrel Bluff

Nível 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Onur Unsal
Onur Unsal

Foeke Deinum opened from middle position and Onur Unsal in the big blind was the only caller.

Unsal check called a bet of 57,000 on {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{4-Spades} and check called another 160,000 on the {6-Hearts} turn. The river came the {8-Diamonds} and Unsal checked again. Without much hesitation it was Deinum announcing all in.

Unsal had a real decision as he had 431,000 left at this point, but immediately said "That's the end of it for me probably. I don't think I can fold this hand."

He took another minute and then called by placing a single blue chip in the middle. Deinum showed {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a failed bluff, Unsal took it down with his {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}!

"What a sicko!" Robert Layne III said.

Unsal couldn't contain himself and got up from the table to fist pump his excitement away without sticking it in Deinum's face. "Nice call sir" Deinum said.

Sarah talked to Unsal about the hand.

Vousden Talks Lopes Out of a Call

Nível 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Samuel Vousden
Samuel Vousden

Bruno Lopes opened from the hijack and Samuel Vousden called from the big blind. Both players checked the {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{J-Clubs} flop and the {5-Diamonds} on the turn. The {2-Spades} hit the river and Vousden bet out 65,000. Lopes went into the tank.

"Frenchies never fold" Vousden said. "You have ace-high?"

"Better" Lopes replied.

"Surely you can't fold. Call! What do you have?" Vousden said.

"What do you have?" Lopes replied.

"A pair..." Vousden answered, followed by a long silence and then "Maybe."

"Show if I fold?" Lopes asked.

"I can show you one" Vousden said.

"I showed you 2 with the flush" Lopes said.

"You get too much info if I tell you I'll show 2. Maybe I'll show 2. What pair do you have?" Vousden asked again. "You can't fold a pair. A pair is good. It's hard to make a pair!"

Lopes did fold in the end and Vousden did show his hand: {8-Spades}{6-Hearts}! "What pair did you have?" Vousden asked.

"Under the board" Lopes answered, despite the fact that the river was a deuce.

Andrew Chen Eliminated

Andrew Chen
Andrew Chen

Andrew Chen, who also made a deep run in the Eureka Main Event last week (44th for €4,960), has just been eliminated. He found himself short stacked on the button with action having folded to him. He pushed all in for around 200,000 and Lukasz Mroczek in the small blind followed his example, pushing over the top all in. The big blind folded.

Andrew Chen: {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Lukasz Mroczek: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

Mroczek had slightly more chips than Chen but it was an important coin flip for the both of them. Mroczek won it when the board came {A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and Chen made his exit in 38th place (€19,040).
