Fabian Quoss - Super High Roller Champion
Fabian Quoss - Super High Roller Champion

The ever-dramatic first event of the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure has officially reached a conclusion! Despite it being a new year, the German domination continues as Fabian Quoss was able to defeat Dan Shak heads up to take home the title as well as $1,629,940 in prize money!

Typically, final tables on the European Poker Tour are eight-handed, but due to an exciting double elimination to conclude Day 2, this final table began with just seven. Shak held the chip lead coming into the final table with Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst right on his heels. Also present at the final table was $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop champion Antonio Esfandiari, 2013 One Drop High Roller champion Tony Gregg, Matt Glantz, and 2013 Global Poker Index Player of the Year Ole Schemion.

Schemion and Gregg entered the day very short on chips, and on the second hand both of them saw their tournament come to an end. At 30,000/60,000/10,000, Schemion was under the gun and opened with a ship all in for 260,000. Gregg then moved all in over the top for 390,000. Quoss called and the rest of the table folded.

Quoss: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Gregg: {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Schemion: {K-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

Neither of the short stacks improved on the {Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Spades} board and Quoss collected the remaining chips of both players. Just a few short hands later, short-stacked Glantz saw his tournament come to a close. Glantz's final hand began when Esfandiari opened to 160,000 from under the gun with {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. Glantz then moved all in over the top for 320,000 total with {J-Spades}{10-Hearts} and it folded over to Selbst in the small blind. She re-raised the action to 605,000 with {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and Esfandiari folded.

Glantz was dominated heading to the community cards and did not improve as the board came down {3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{K-Spades}. He collected $445,520 for his fifth-place finish.

After some exciting four-handed play, the match came to a head during a confrontation between Selbst and Esfandiari. At 40,000/80,000/10,000, Selbst opened with a raise to 160,000. Esfandiari three-bet to 430,000, and Selbst four-bet him all in for about 1.9 million. Esfandiari called and the hands were revealed to show that the two were racing for the Magician's tournament life.

Selbst: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Esfandiari: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

The flop fell {2-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Esfandiari kept his lead. Selbst picked up additional outs, however, as she could make a wheel with a trey. It was not needed, however, as the {A-Diamonds} spiked the turn and put Selbst in a dominating position. The {5-Clubs} bricked off on the river for Esfandiari and he was forced to settle for a fourth place finish.

Three-handed play saw much drama as large amounts of chips exchanged hands several times and the chip lead was constantly changing. In what began a dramatic series of hands, Selbst lost a fair sized hand to Shak. Immediately following that, Selbst was able to double back through Shak and take a huge chip lead.

Soon after though, Selbst lost a large chunk of those chips when she turned top two pair against Quoss' turned Broadway straight. Quoss scored a full double and crippled Selbst. Shortly thereafter, she moved all in for her last roughly two million from the button with {K-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Quoss called from the big blind with {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and the Super High Roller was suddenly five cards away from heads up play. The {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop was of no help to Selbst, and she was still hunting for a king or a nine heading to the final two streets. The {4-Spades} hit fourth street and the {3-Spades} fifth, sending Selbst home as the third-place finisher for a payday of $760,640.

Following Selbst's elimination, Quoss and Shak took a dinner break before returning to the felt to determine a champion. Quoss continuously applied pressure during the bout and the match finally came to a head after about an hour of play. On the final hand, Quoss limped from the button and Shak checked his option to a {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{Q-Spades} flop. Shak check-called a bet of 200,000 and the {9-Diamonds} fell on fourth street. Shak checked again and Quoss fired out 425,000. Shak moved all in for 2.275 million and Quoss snapped him off.

Quoss: {8-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Shak: {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Quoss was in the lead with a straight and was looking to dodge an eight or a king heading to the river. The dealer produced the {A-Clubs} as the final card and Shak was eliminated as the runner-up. Quoss seized the victory and the title of Super High Roller champion!

That does it for our coverage of the $100,000 Super High Roller, but the action is just getting started at this year's PCA! Be sure to tune in to our ongoing live updates of the $10,000,000 Guarantee Main Event as a field packed with tons of hopefuls attempt to reach the goal of becoming the next PCA Main Event Champion!

Fabian Quoss called from the button with {8-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Dan Shak checked from the big blind with {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and Shak check-called 200,000.

The {9-Diamonds} came on the turn giving Quoss a straight and Shak checked over to the German professional. Quoss moved 425,000 forward and Shak moved all in for 2.275 million. Quoss snapped him off and the hands were rolled over.

Shak was left searching for a king or an eight on the river to make a better straight and double up.

The anticipation reached an all time high among Quoss' German rail, as they began drumming their hands on the rail while they waited for the final card to be dealt.

The dealer rapped the table and produced the river card - the {A-Clubs}!

Quoss clinched the victory and Shak was eliminated in second place for the second time in three years. He collected $1,178,980 in second-place prize money.

Vanessa Selbst raised to 350,000 out of the small blind with {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, Dan Shak moved all in with {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} out of the big blind, and Selbst snap-folded.

The very next hand, Selbst moved all in for just over two million on the button with {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Shak folded in the small blind, and Fabian Quoss called in the big blind with {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}.

The dealer fanned {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, giving Quoss a wheel draw to go with his leading ace-high, and the {4-Spades} on the turn gave him a pair. It also gave Selbst chop outs, but the {3-Spades} on the river wasn't one of them.

Selbst, who won the $25,000 High Roller at the 2013 PCA, will walk away with $760,640, while Quoss has over nine million chips heading into heads-up play.

Vanessa Selbst opened to 320,000 on the button with {A-Spades}{K-Spades} and it folded over to Fabian Quoss who called from the big blind with {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Quoss checked it over to Selbst. The Team PokerStars Pro continued out for 320,000 and Quoss flatted.

The {A-Hearts} drilled the turn, giving Selbst top two pair but ultimately the second hand behind Quoss' Broadway straight. Quoss checked for a second time and Selbst moved 480,000 forward. Quoss called once more and the {6-Diamonds} completed the board.

Quoss knuckled the table one last time and Selbst moved 980,000 forward. Quoss announced a raise all in for 2.21 million total and Selbst immediately stirred in her seat.

"I call," said Selbst. "I can't fold this hand."

Quoss was able to score a full double up and now sits in the top chip position at the table with 6.88 million.

After losing a massive pot, Vanessa Selbst raised to 350,000 out of the small blind with {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Dan Shak three-bet to one million with {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, Selbst moved all in for 3.21 million, and Shak immediately called.

The {q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop gave Shak a backdoor straight draw, but the {4-Spades} on the turn ended those dreams. The paired board gave Shak chop outs though, but again the deck failed him on the river.

The {9-Clubs} bricked off, and the Team PokerStars Pro doubled up.

Shak Ships River, Quoss Folds Two Pair

Nível 22 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Dan Shak - Back Over Five Million
Dan Shak - Back Over Five Million

Fabian Quoss opened to 240,000 with {7-Spades}{4-Spades} from the button and found a call from Dan Shak's {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} in the big blind.

The two saw a low flop of {3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} hit the felt which gave Quoss the lead with a pair of fours. Both players tapped the table to see the {8-Clubs} hit the felt on fourth street.

Shak fired 250,000 on the turn and Quoss called to take a look at the final community card. The {7-Hearts} finished off the board which paired up both players but gave Quoss the best hand with two pair. Shak dropped 325,000 forward and Quoss announced a raise. Shak instantly announced an all in three-bet which prompted Quoss to release a heavy sigh.

As he thought, Quoss leaned back in his seat, sipped from his bottle of water, and flashed a smile at Shak.

"Wouldn't you bet bigger with five-six on the river?" asked Quoss.

Shak gave no reply.

Quoss ultimately kicked his hand in and asked Shak to show one card. Shak said that Quoss could expose one of his cards and the {7-Clubs} was flipped up for all to see.

"Didn't have five-six," jabbed Shak as he scooped up the pot.

Quoss Cracks Shak's Aces

Dan Shak woke up with {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} on the button, and raised to 300,000. Fabian Quoss moved all in for 1.51 million from the small blind with {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}, and Vanessa Selbst looked down at {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and asked for a count. The dealer confirmed the count from EPT Live's telecast, and Selbst went into the tank. She eventually folded, and Shak snap-called.

"Classic," Quoss sighed. "Queen-nine-three all diamonds."

Quoss' prediction fell flat, but the {7-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} flop gave Quoss a pair of jacks.

"Queen of something?" Quoss asked.

The turn was indeed a "queen of something" - the {q-Hearts} - and Quoss now had an open-ended straight draw. The {9-Clubs} spiked on the river, giving Quoss said straight, and he cracked Shak's aces to double to over three million chips.

Shak left the stage to return to the restroom, and the crew decided to take a 15-minute break.

Selbst Gets Value from Flopped Set

Nível 21 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

As the three briefly discussed a chop - well, Dan Shak and Fabian Quoss discussed while Vanessa Selbst denied - Quoss raised to 200,000 on the button with {a-Spades}{10-Spades}. Selbst three-bet to 475,000 out of the small blind with {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, Quoss called, and the flop fell {k-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}, giving Selbst a set of threes.

Selbst led out for 385,000, Quoss called, and the turn brought the {j-Clubs}. Selbst led out again - this time sliding out a monster stack of 740,000 - and Quoss reached for T100,000 chips. He added a few green T25,000 chips and blue T5,000 chips, and made the call.

The {6-Diamonds} completed the board, locking up the hand for Selbst as long as she didn’t fold, and Selbst moved all in for effectively 1.8 million or so.

"Pretty quick all in," Quoss said after tanking for a minute or so.

The German took a sip of water, then a sip of Coke, and finally mucked his hand.
