Lefrancois Leads After Day 2

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Pascal Lefrancois
Pascal Lefrancois

The 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event continued on Thursday with Day 2 action, and leading the way is Pascal Lefrancois. The French Canadian, who won a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2010 and finished 11th in the Main Event that same summer, bagged 412,000 chips after consistently chipping up the entire day.

Joining Lefrancois at the top of the counts is Sam Greenwood (402,500), Matt Berkey (372,100), Roger Teska (369,000), and Brian Altman (362,100).

Also among the chip leaders is 2012 PCA Main Event champion John Dibella. Dibella made trip queens against Lily Kiletto in Level 11, and then the very next level he made a diamond flush to cross 300,000 chips. The New Yorker, who earned $1,775,000 after a heads-up chop with Kyle Julius two years ago, enters Day 3 with 293,600 chips.

No one had a more violent day than Kiletto, who reached two WPT final tables in 2013. Kiletto won a 200,000-chip pot during the first level of the day with {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} against {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} on a queen-high flop, but Kiletto’s day took a turn for the worse as the day progressed though, and she fell to 66,000 chips in the penultimate level after running a bluff with nine-high. On the final hand of the evening, Kiletto was busted by Teska.

The prize pool was announced during play on Day 2. The 1,031-player field generated a total purse of $10,070,000, just clearing the $10 million guarantee. The top 151 players will earn a minimum of $17,600, each member of the final table is guaranteed $173,220, and the winner will walk away with over $1.8 million and the title.

Leading the Red Spade into Day 3 is Team PokerStars Online member Marc-Andre Ladouceur. The French-Canadian bagged 208,700 chips, and he will be joined on Friday by Team Pros George Danzer (121,100), Dario Minieri (168,500), Humberto Brenes (39,000), Vanessa Selbst (251,100), Jason Mercier (43,800), Marcel Luske (134,600), Liv Boeree (135,700), Alex Kravchenko (75,700), Angel Guillen (185,600), and others.

Boeree received a double up during the final level of the evening, moving all in with two aces against Eugene Todd’s {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. Todd flopped a pair of queens and a flush draw, but the turn and river were both blanks.

Unlike Boeree, Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari was unable to win an all in with aces during the final level. His opponent was dominated with two queens, but was fortunate enough to make a straight.

Also falling on Day 2 were John Juanda, Joseph Cheong, Dan O’Brien, Daniel Negreanu, Robert Mizrachi, Dominik Nitsche, Philipp Gruissem, Ryan Riess, and Jake Cody.

Germans Nitsche and Gruissem were eliminated on the same hand when they ran middling pocket pairs into Katchalov’s pocket aces, Juanda ran pocket kings in Fabian Quoss’ pocket aces, and Cheong’s {a-}{q-} was cracked by Crosta’s {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.

Day 3 is set to begin on Friday at 12:00 p.m. EST. Be sure to check back to PokerNews for all of your up-to-the-minute updates straight from the tournament floor.

Foot Loosli

Sylvain Loosli spikes an ace

When we reached the table, Sylvain Loosli had a bet of 14,500 sitting in front of him on a flop of {6-Hearts}{q-Spades}{10-Clubs}. James Calderaro raised, splashing six blue T5,000 chips in front of him, and Loosli tanked for a bit before moving all in for 86,000.

As Loosli announced his all-in wager, Calderaro was reaching to his side for a drink he had sitting on an empty chair. He grabbed it, pulled the cup to his lips, took a long sip, and called.

The November Niner instantly turned his hand over, revealing {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}, and Calderaro studied it for a second or two before showing {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} for a set of sixes.

The dealer rapped the felt, burned a card, and spiked the {a-Clubs} on the turn.

Calderaro slammed the table with his hand in anger, and was still steaming by the time the {7-Hearts} completed the board. Loosli shipped the monster pot, doubling to 200,000 chips, while Calderaro plummeted to 45,000.

Smith Doubles Through Colman

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Dan Smith

The board read {2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and there was already over 55,000 in the middle when Dan Smith faced a bet of 28,000 from Daniel Colman. Smith called to see a river.

The {k-Hearts} completed the board and Colman announced an all in bet. Smith quickly called off his last 62,900 and triumphantly tabled {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} for a full house of queens full of tens. Colman mucked his hand and Smith was able to score a double.

"That a nice turn, Dan," said Colman. "How'd you do that?"

Smith flashed a grin back while he stacked his chips.

"My life is not bad but yours is just so much better," continued Colman. "How nice is your life?"

"I'm not complaining," replied a smiling Smith.

Not complaining indeed, as he is now sitting on 255,000 in chips while Colman's stack has been reduced to 62,000.

Jason Mercier and Isaac Haxton both started the day with short stacks. But while the latter seemed to be the man to make the most spectacular comeback, it actually turned out to be the former who reverted to type, much to the delight of the watching Mrs M. PokerStars Blog explains.

Former SuperNova Elite Mike Ziemba on Surviving Black Friday and Grinding Online in NV

Nível 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Mike Ziemba
Mike Ziemba

Mike Ziemba is a former PokerStars SuperNova Elite player who had his dream job stripped from him when Black Friday struck the Internet poker world. Since that dark day in April 2011, Ziemba spent time traveling abroad to play, attempting to play live cash games in Las Vegas, and anxiously waiting for online poker's triumphant return to the United States.

While the volume of games may not be what it once was, online poker is back in Ziemba's home state of Nevada. Since its return, Ziemba has been back on the grind getting his life back in order, and he is easily one of the highest — if not the highest — volume players in the Silver State.

PokerNews senior writer Rich Ryan recently spent some time with Ziemba to get his story and find out first hand from the man himself what the entire experience has been like for the past couple of years through all of the ups and downs.

WSOP Gold Bracelet Winner Pillai Leads Into Day 2

Atlantis Resort
Atlantis Resort

Day 2 of the 2014 PokerStars Caribean Adventure Main Event is upon us. The second day of play will see at least 632 players advancing from the two starting flights and registration remaining open until the start of play today, the Imperial Ballroom at the Atlantis Resort will be a crowded place once again.

Entering Day 2 with the overall chip lead is 2007 World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Shankar Pillai. He finished Day 1b with 173,900 in chips and will be looking to continue to lay the hammer down in the quest for another major title.

Other notables advancing to Day 2 are Marcel Luske, Timothy Reilly, Noah Boeken, David "ODB" Baker, Dario Minieri, Vanessa Selbst, and Maria Ho.

Another player advancing to Day 2 and doing so with more than double the starting stack is Fabian Quoss. Just two days ago, Quoss earned the largest score by winning the $100,000 Super High Roller for $1,629,940. Quoss defeated high roller living legend Dan Shak to claim the title. Towards the end of Day 1b, Quoss earned a double up through Dan Kelly an aces-versus-kings confrontation that landed him the win, and he'll take 65,800 in chips into Day 2.

The reigning WSOP Main Event champion is also still alive, albeit with just over half the starting stack. Ryan Riess played Day 1a and dropped as low as 8,000 in chips before climbing back to finish on 16,500. After vocally claiming that he feels he is the "best player in the world," lots of eyes are on Riess to see if he can walk the walk.

The man Riess succeeded in his WSOP Main Event win, 2012 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Merson, finished Day 1b with 108,200.

Play is scheduled to kick off promptly at 12 p.m. local time here in the Bahamas, and you can bet your house that PokerNews is the place to be for live updates straight from the tournament floor.
