Anthony Ghamrawi Leads the PokerStars.net EPT Vienna Main Event Final Table

Nível 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Anthony Ghamrawi
Anthony Ghamrawi

With the simple goal of playing from 17 players down to eight, most people estimated that the fifth playing day of the PokerStars.net European Poker Tour Vienna Main Event wasn't going to be a long one. Those people were right, as in the end it took only a little over four and a half hours for the Main Event to reach its final table.

In the first hand, it was Mike Adamo who pushed all in from the cutoff position for his final 491,000 in chips. Roman Korenev re-shoved and all other players folded. Adamo's ace-seven was up against Korenev's ace-king, and the best hand held up. With Adamo's departure, the tournament was down to 16 players and immediately there was a redraw. With two tables left, the play was once again full ring. This didn't tighten up the game, though, as there was plenty of action to enjoy.

Patrick Fasching, on the feature table, was next in line to make his exit. He opened ace-jack suited on the button and got a three-bet shove from [Removed:40] in the small blind. Fasching made the call with his {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and was up against the {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}. Fasching was the clear underdog but would flop about as good as possible when the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} rolled out. The flop would be his only moment of relief though, as the turn blanked but the {J-Spades} on the river filled up Vitagliano's straight.

"I knew it! I knew it!" the Italian player repeatedly said, while Fasching headed for the exit in 16th place.

Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden's head would be next on the chopping block. In the two-million chip pot, he couldn't beat pocket eights with his ace-king. An ace hit the flop, but so did an eight and the last Team PokerStars Pro made his exit. It would mark the sixth time Lodden busted with ace-king to a pair, or the other way around, on the final two tables of an EPT Main Event. The Norwegian pro sarcastically tweeted he just needed a few more spots to make for a nice record:

Johnny LoddenBusto 15'th. Nice to get that one since I allready got 9, 10, 13, 14, 16 and 17! Only need to get 11 and 12. Before I smash it! #EPTVienna

Short-stacked Sebastian Panny would finish in 14th place. He pushed all in over a raise, but Frei Dilling woke up with jacks behind him. Dilling made the call and beat out on Panny's ace-three to secure everyone a €4,000 pay jump.

Romanian superstar Dan Murariu was having a great day up until this point. He was winning pots left and right and was up to an above-average stack when he got dealt the {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. Murariu opened the cutoff to 60,000 and was three-bet by Dilling on the button who made it 145,000. Both blinds folded, but Murariu put in a four-bet to 345,000. Dilling made the call and they saw a flop in an already huge pot: {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

Murariu made a 265,000 continuation bet and Dilling called again. The {K-Hearts} on the turn really got things going, as Murariu, with about 750,000 behind, thought for a minute or two and then announced all in. Dilling didn't need much time, though, and while he didn't look like the happiest person in the world, he called.

Dilling was pretty happy a second later, as he saw Murariu turned over the {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. Murariu had just two outs because Dilling was the proud owner of the {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}. Murariu wouldn't hit after the {9-Clubs} landed on the river. This cooler situation eliminated Murariu in 13th place, which was good for a little under €45,000.

[Removed:40], who was so sure he would hit the straight not too long ago, wasn't so sure when he got ace-nine all in against Anthony Ghamrawi's ace-jack. A board full of blanks meant the tournament was now free of Italian players.

Andras Kovacs, not to be confused with the Hungarian movie director, couldn't get things going all day long. Time and time again he had to fold with more than enough action in front of him. Finally, on a hand when it was folded to him on the button, he pushed his remaining 600,000 into the pot. Unfortunately for the Hungarian, EPT regular and World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Simeon Naydenov was holding ace-king behind him. After the king-high flop, Kovacs was drawing dead on the turn.

With 12 players left in the tournament, Anthony Ghamrawi and Gavin O'Rourke played the biggest pot of the tournament. It started with a raise to 60,000 from Ghamrawi, then a three-bet to 190,000 from O'Rourke, then a four-bet to 465,000 from Ghamrawi, which was followed by a five-bet to 775,000 from O'Rourke. After that came an all-in shove from Ghamrawi and a call from O'Rourke. Just like that, there was 5.5 million in the middle.

O'Rourke had red queens and was up against Ghamrawi's red kings. No queen or any other form of help came for O'Rourke, and he was knocked all the way down to just 620,000.

O'Rourke wasn't the next one to go, though, as Korenev got into a fight with Rumen Nanev on the outer table. In back-to-back hands, Korenev got his stack in holding ace-queen. The first time, he doubled Nanev, who helt ace-ten and hit a ten on the river. The next hand, Nanev had pocket tens and Korenev didn't get any help with his two over cards. Korenev, neatly dressed including a nice jacket and bow tie, was sent home in 10th place for €50,250.

With nine players left the tournament was halted for a short period of time to break down to one table. As per usual on the European Poker Tour, the final table was not set though. The tournament needed to lose one more player to make the final table official.

Because of Korenev's bust out, Irishman O'Rourke secured himself a €10,000 pay jump. He was the one next to go, though, as he got his short stack in with queen-jack suited and was up against Dilling's pocket tens. No help came on the board, and the final table was set.

Gavin O'Rourke Eliminated in 9th Place (€60,800)

Nível 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Gavin O'Rourke
Gavin O'Rourke

And just like that we have our ninth place finisher and the final table is set.

Frei Dilling opened the button to 80,000 and from the small blind it was Gavin O'Rourke who pushed his remaining 655,000 to the middle. The big blind folded but Dilling instantly called.

Gavin O'Rourke: {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}
Frei Dilling: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

O'Rourke needed some help but didn't get it on the flop: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. O'Rourke was in need of runner runner something, or simply a queen or jack.

The turn was the {6-Spades} which brought just one more out for O'Rourke. The {6-Hearts} would now make for quads on the board which would make O'Rourke's queen play.

It wasn't meant to be though as the {9-Hearts} hit and O'Rourke's hand didn't improve. The Irishman bubbles the final table but gets €60,800 for his effort.

The remaining eight players come back tomorrow at noon to battle it out for that first place prize of €816,000.

Roman Korenev Eliminated in 10th Place (€50,250)

Nível 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Roman Korenev
Roman Korenev

In back to back hands Roman Korenev just lost his entire stack, twice with the same hand and twice against the same player.

By shoving, reshoving, stealing and three betting Korenev hard worked his stack up to 2.1 million. It would do him no good though, before he knew it all of his chips were in front of Rumen Nanev.

In the first hand it was Frei Dilling who opened to 80,000 under the gun. Right next to him was Rumen Nanev and he declared all in for 845,000. Action folded to Korenev in the small blind who pushed all in himself. The big blind folded, and so did Dilling.

Rumen Nanev: {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Roman Korenev: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

The flop didn't improve anyone directly with {2-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}. The {6-Diamonds} gave Nanev a gutshot next to the three outs he already had. The river was the {10-Clubs} and Nanev doubled through Korenev.

The next hand would be a similar scenario. The two ended up all in pre flop again, this time it was a coin flip:

Rumen Nanev: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Roman Korenev: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

No improvement for Korenev, while he did need it this time. {K-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{2-Hearts} on the board and Korenev left for the exit.

The remaining nine players are now reseated to the feature table where they'll play till a final table of eight. One more player has to bust, then this day will be in the books.

Massive Double Up For Ghamwari

Nível 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Anthony Ghamrawi
Anthony Ghamrawi

Anthony Ghamrawi raised under the gun and Gavin O'Rourke three-bet from his immediate left to 190,000. The action folded back to Ghamrawi and he four-bet to 465,000. O'Rourke tanked for a bit and made it 775,000 after which Ghamrawi moved all in.

O'Rourke called and the biggest all-in confrontation of the tournament was upon us.

Ghamrawi: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
O'Rourke: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Ghamrawi notched up a massive double up. O'Rourke is now among the short stacks.

Andras Kovacs Eliminated in 11th Place (€50,250)

Nível 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Andras Kovacs
Andras Kovacs

Andras Kovacs open shoved the button for the remaining 600,000 he had. Simeon Naydenov in the small blind asked for a count, and then announced all in himself. Roman Korenev quickly folded his big blind and the cards were tabled.

Andras Kovacs: {J-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Simeon Naydenov: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

Naydenov was the favorite but not by much, Kovacs cards were live.

The {K-Diamonds} in the window hurt for Kovacs though, and the {5-Clubs} and {6-Hearts} didn't help either. The {7-Hearts} on the turn and {7-Spades} on the river were blanks and Kovacs was needed to be heading for the exit.

Andras Kovacs returns home with a cheque for €50,250.

Big Coinflip Goes Khoroshenin's Way

Oleksii Khoroshenin
Oleksii Khoroshenin

Gavin O'Rourke raised to 85,000 from the cutoff and Oleksii Khoroshenin three-bet from the button to 225,000. Timo Pfutzenreuter went into the tank for a long time before making it 405,000 from the small blind.

Both Marko Neumann, from the big blind, and the initial raiser folded putting the action back on Khoroshenin. The Ukrainian pro tanked for over six minutes, with about 1.1 million left behind, and he finally opted to move all in for 1,140,000 and his opponent snap-called.

Khoroshenin: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Pfutzenreuter: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and Khoroshenin raked in a big double up. Pfutzenreuter has now lost his chip lead and the short-handed pre final table action gets that much more interesting all of a sudden.

Gavin O'Rourke raised to 65,000 from the hijack and Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden responded with a three-bet to 157,000 from the button. Marko Neummann tanked for quite a while from the big blind, but ultimately he folded and O'Rourke moved all in.

Lodden called for his tournament life worth 1,035,000 and the showdown went as following.

Lodden: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}
O'Rourke: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

The flop brought {A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts} and O'Rourke hit a set to crush Lodden's flopped pair of aces.

The turn brought the {2-Spades} securing a win for O'Rourke and on the river,the {5-Spades}, it was Lodden who exited the feature table stage.

Patrick Fasching opened the button for 56,000 and the small blind quickly folded. [Removed:40] in the big blind moved all in, effectively putting Fasching to the decision for his tournament life. Fasching made the call and again a big showdown, this time at the feature table.

[Removed:40]: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Patrick Fasching: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

The flop would come as good for Faschling as it could: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Faschling was now the clear favorite to double up as he flopped top pair and a flush draw. The royal he wouldn't make though, his Italian opponent had the missing {K-Clubs}.

The {3-Hearts} on the turn was a blank but the {J-Spades} on the river wasn't.

"I knew it!" said Vitagliano who now has 2.2 million in chips, "I knew it!"

With the elimination of Patrick Fasching all remaining 15 players are guaranteed €40,550.
