Ruben Visser Wins The PokerStars.com EPT London (£595,000)

Nível 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

It was a tough battle for the 2013 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour London Main Event title, but after all was said and done Ruben Visser walked away with the top prize worth £595,000. The 24-year old Entrepreneurship and New Business Venturing student outlasted seven tough opponents and became the fifth Dutchman to win an EPT title.

The first player that was knocked out was also one of the biggest names at the final table. Chris Moorman started the day as one of the short stacks and got his money in with pocket sevens against ace-king. The Brit was up against Team PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen who flopped two pair right way. Moorman didn't catch up and took home £57,000.

The second, and final, Brit to get knocked out was Tamer Kamel who finished in seventh place for £79,950. Kamel hung around for quite some time, but couldn't find a way to win when his ace-ten ended up all in against Olof Haglund's king-queen suited. Haglund hit a pair and extended his chip lead with six players remaining.

Christopher Frank was eliminated in a huge clash against the eventual winner, Visser. The German youngster played a huge preflop all-in pot with ace-king against Visser's nines and the board brought no card higher than a ten. This pot put Visser firmly in second place and Frank walked away with £112,000 in just his second EPT tournament after finishing just short of the money in this year's PCA Main Event.

Steve O'Dwyer started the final table as the chip leader, but he fell way short of where he would've liked to have finished. After losing a massive coin flip against Haglund, O'Dwyer ended up re-shoving over a raise from Visser, but Jorgensen woke up behind him with pocket aces. The American pro, who finished runner-up in this event last season, had just ace-deuce and could not catch a lucky break. O'Dwyer added £146,000 to his impressive list of results for his fifth-place finish.

Four-handed play took quite some time, but eventually it was the Team PokerStars Pro who was knocked out in fourth place. Jorgensen tried winning a coin flip against the man who had the best day of his poker career and that ended unfortunately for the Danish pro. Visser's pocket fours ended up victorious against Jorgensen's ace-eight, and he consoled himself with a £183,000 payday. A deal was made right after Jorgensen was knocked out, and the details were sorted out as follows:

NameDeal Amount
Ruben Visser£455,000
Olof Haglund£427,564
Mantas Visockis£377,436

There was £140,000 left for the winner, and Haglund was not going to be the lucky one to add more to his big win. It was Visser again with ace-eight when he played a coin flip against the Swede's king-jack. An ace on the flop ended the tournament for Haglund, and he took home £427,564.

Heads-up play between Visser and Mantas Visockis took just over two hours, but to the eventual winner it felt like an eternity. Visser started with a huge chip lead, but his Lithuanian opponent almost managed to close to gap. After the second break, Visser quickly regained ground on Visockis, who eventually played a coin flip for his tournament life with tens against ace-queen. The board seemed safe for a Visockis double up, but the queen of hearts on the river changed everything. Visser hit a winning pair and took down the EPT London title. Visockis took home £377,436 for his second-place finish, but the big winner was Visser, who added £595,000 to his poker résumé.

With this victory, Visser moved up to the fifth place on the Dutch all-time money leader board behind previous EPT winners Constant Rijkenberg, Rob Hollink, Pieter de Korver and Team PokerStars Pro Marcel Luske.

That's it for the 2013 EPT London from the Victoria Casino. PokerNews would like to thank you for following our coverage. Here's a reminder of how the final eight finished:

After a day of flips the tournament had to end in a flip, a flip that made Ruben Visser 5th Dutch winner of an EPT.

Visser opened to 250,000 and snap called when Mantas Visockis three-bet all in for around four million.

Visockis: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Visser: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

The board ran {7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{2-Spades}{Q-Hearts} to see Visser make a crucial pair on the river.

Ruben Visser raised to 200,000 from the button and Olof Haglund three-bet to 515,000. Visser decided to move all in and put Haglund's tournament life at risk if he would make the call. The Swede did some maths but ultimately he made the call to play a pot worth around 7.2 million chips.

Ruben Visser: {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Olof Haglund: {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and Haglund was knocked out in third place! Visser is now heads up with a commanding chip lead over Mantas Visockis.

The last Team PokerStars Pro, Theo Jorgensen, has bowed out in 4th place after yet another race scenario at this final table.

Ruben Visser opened to 175,000 from the button before Jorgensen three-bet to 905,000 from the small blind. He was effectively committing himself to the pot as he only had around 1.7 million total. Visser shoved and Jorgensen called.

Visser: {a-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Jorgensen: {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

The board ran {q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{q-Spades}{a-Clubs} to pair Visser's ace on the river.

Ruben Visser raised to 125,000 from the button and Steve O'Dwyer re-shoved from the small blind for 1,130,000. Team PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen was seated in the big blind and he quickly moved all in over the top. Visser let go of his hand and an all-in showdown was upon us.

Theo Jorgensen: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
Steve O'Dwyer: {A-Clubs}{2-Spades}

The board ran out {J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and O'Dwyer was knocked out. The American pro finished second last year in this event and a fifth place now can only be considered an extremely impressive result. Play continues with just four players, all of which have more than 50 big blinds!

Ruben Visser: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

The board ran out {4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Visser scored a huge knockout! Frank was eliminated in sixth place and Visser is now very close to being the chip leader together with Olof Haglund.

The United Kingdom was the only country with an EPT winner in every season so far, except for this season. Hopes of extending that record into Season 9 have been dashed after the second, and last reaming Brit, busted from the tournament.

Tamer Kamel moved all in from under the gun for 495,000 and was called by Olof Haglund from the button.

Kamel: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Haglund: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The board ran a blue and yellow {j-Spades}{4-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Spades} to pair Haglund's queen.

Haglund Doubles Through O'Dwyer

Nível 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Olof Haglund
Olof Haglund

Olof Haglund was one of the shortest stacks when play started yesterday. He managed to double up twice early on and that set the foundations for him to make the final table.

Fast forward to today and the Swede has started in a similar way: he doubled through Steve O'Dywer in the biggest pot of the tournament so far, and claimed the chip lead!

Haglund opened to 100,000 and then four-bet to 580,000 when O'Dwyer three-bet to 275,000. O'Dwyer shoved and Haglund made a quick call all in for 2.67 million.

Haglund: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
O'Dywer: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The board ran a blank {5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

Haglund up to 5.45 million O'Dywer dropped to 1.68 million
