Julian Track EPT Prague Main Event Champion 2013

The record-breaking third stop of the 10th season of the PokerStars European Poker Tour came to its conclusion today with the completion of both the EPT10 Prague Main Event and €10,000 High Roller. You can read about the latter by clicking here, but as far as the former was concerned, just eight players returned to action on Day 6 to play down to a winner. It took a full day of play, but eventually Germany's Julian Track emerged victorious over the 1,007-player field to capture the title and the €725,000 first-place prize.

Action resumed in Level 26 (20,000/40,000/5,000), and given how deep the stacks were, everyone was settled in for a long day. The first elimination came when Jorma Nuutinen opened the hijack to 100,000 with the {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} only to have Stephen Chidwick make it 225,000 to go from the cutoff with the {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. Track, who began the day as chip leader, then four-bet to 650,000 from the big blind with the {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. Nuutinen shoved for 1.81 million, and Chidwick folded. Track called, the board ran out {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, and that was all she wrote for Nuutinen, who notched his third EPT Main Event cash in Prague.

It took a few hours before the next bustouts, but eventually Zdravko Duvnjak and Max Silver fell in seventh and sixth place, respectively.

Silver began the day second in chips, but seemed to be stuck in reverse. His final hand came in Level 29 (40,000/80,000/10,000) when he open-shoved his last 1.58 million and got a reshove from his friend Chidwick behind. The other players folded and Silver discovered his {A-Spades}{10-Hearts} was racing against Chidwick's {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Things were looking pretty good for Silver through the {10-Spades}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop and {4-Diamonds} turn, but then disaster struck when the {7-Hearts} spiked on the river. The rollercoaster of emotions ended with disappointment for Silver, though he did give Chidwick a big hug before exiting the stage.

In Level 30 (50,000/100,000/10,000), the German sensation that is Ole Schemion — who just turned 21 back in September — was sent to the rail, though it took a bad beat to make it happen. In the hand, Georgios Sotiropoulos made it 200,000 to go preflop with the {K-Spades}{9-Clubs}, Track three-bet to 540,000 with the {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, and Schemion responded by moving all in for nearly 3.4 million with {10-}{10-}. Sotiropoulos folded, Track tank-called, and Schemion was in great shape to double. The {2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop was innocent enough, but then the {7-Spades} appeared on the turn. Track hit his two outer and Schemion was left drawing to a ten on the river. The {9-Hearts} was close to what he was looking for, but not close enough. The young German had to settle for fifth place while Track amassed 57% of the chips in play.

Ka Kwan Lau was the next to go in fourth place, and then Chidwick followed him out the door in third. Mind you, this was Chidwick's second third-place finish in a field of over 1,000 players. Just a week ago, Chidwick took home €92,500 for finishing third out of 1,315 players in the Eureka Prague Main Event.

That set up a heads-up match between Track and Sotiropoulos with the German holding 17.265 million to the Greek's 12.915 million. Despite that, the two struck a deal where they would each lock up €700,000 and play for €25,700. Track wasn't feeling to well and just wanted to be done with it.

Despite the deal and relative small amount of money still in the middle, Track and Sotiropoulos still played for hours. Sotiropoulos was grinded down time and time again, but doubled twice to find new life. Eventually it wasn't meant to be for the Greek, who couldn't win the most important flip of his life with queen-jack to Track's pocket tens.

Sotiropoulos moves from 65th place to first on the Greece All-Time Money List, according to Hendon Mob. German's Julian Track is much less interested in stats like that. Before the final table started, he was quoted saying he didn't like live poker all that much and the upcoming Aussie Millions will likely be his last live tournament. Whether or not he likes live events that much, he's going to have a pretty good ROI, whatever the outcome in Melbourne next year.

That does it for our coverage from the EPT10 Prague. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will next be in the Bahamas from Jan. 5-14 to bring you all the action from the 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Track will most likely not be attending, but many others will be going to Paradise Island for the $10 million guaranteed Main Event. You won't want to miss it!

Georgios Sotiropoulos Eliminated in 2nd Place (€700,000)

Georgios Sotiropoulos
Georgios Sotiropoulos

Despite doubling up multiple times, it wasn't enough for Greek player Georgios Sotiropoulos in the end. He was down to to a little over 3 million and open pushed from the dealer button with {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}. In the big blind Julian Track woke up with {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and made the call for a 6.9 million pot.

Track was really eager to finish it here and now. Not only because he wanted the title, he didn't even seem to interested in that, more so because he wasn't feeling to well it appeared.

The last couple of times Sotiropoulos found new life on the flop, turn or river. This time around the Greek wouldn't be so lucky. The {K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} on the flop were all blanks, the {4-Clubs} on the turn didn't improve anyone and the {3-Spades} on the river really finally sealed the deal for Julian Track.

Stephen Chidwick Eliminated in 3rd Place (€378,000)

Nível 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

During three and four handed play Stephen Chidwick had been open limping fairly frequently from various positions and he did it once more with {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} in the small blind. Georgios Sotiropoulos then raised to 340,000 with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} from the big blind and Chidwick announced he was all in for 2,785,000.

As he's done fairly often at the final table Sotiropoulos took his time before calling. Chidwick was a 60% favourite to double up but the {3-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Spades} flop reduced that chance to just 13%. And it was an unlucky turn and river for the Brit as the board ran {4-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} eliminating him in third place. The same place he finished in the Eureka Main Event six days ago.

Georgios Sotiropoulos raised it up with {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} to 240,000 from the button. Ka Kwan Lau in the big blind made the call with {K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}.

Both players checked the {2-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop after which the dealer put the {7-Clubs} down as turn. Lau bet out 275,000 and was soon facing a raise by Sotiropoulos who made it 755,000. Lau thought for four minutes before bumping the action to 1,250,000. Before the dealer was done counting everything there was already an all in and a call.

Lau needed help on the river but wouldn't get it. The {4-Hearts} was a complete blank and again no Spanish winner on the EPT. Lau is €383,800 richer, three players remain.

Ole Schemion Eliminated in 5th Place (€218,300)

Nível 30 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante
Ole Schemion
Ole Schemion

Julian Track has, we're told, got the flu and he just put a sick beat on Ole Schemion to send the German tumbling out in fifth.

Preflop Georgios Sotiropoulos made it 200,000 to go with {K-Spades}{9-Clubs}, Track then three-bet to 540,000 with {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Ole Schemion responded by moving all in for 3,382,500 with pocket tens. After getting a count Track called to put Schemion at risk.

The {2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts} board meant Track turned a two outer to eliminate the very dangerous Schemion in fifth. As a result Track has a stack of 17,272,500 and a lead of more than 12 million chips from his closest challenger. Indeed he now has 57% of the chips in play.

Max Silver & Stephen Chidwick hug it out after elimination

Things weren't going all that well for Max Silver in the last level. He didn't catch a break, couldn't hit any flops. He just open shoved his last 1,580,000 and got a reshove from Stephen Chidwick behind him. The other players folded and a big clash between the two men from the United Kingdom was a reality. Though Silver needed to hit with his {A-Spades}{10-Hearts} against Chidwick's {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}, he was smiling like he was ok with the situation either way.

After the {10-Spades}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop things were looking pretty good for Silver. The {4-Diamonds} on the turn wasn't reason for concern either but the {7-Hearts} was. The rollercoaster of emotions ended with disappointment, though Silver was still not acting all that upset. He gave Chidwick a hug and exited the stage.

Zdravko Duvnjak
Zdravko Duvnjak

Kroatian player Zdravko Duvnjak open shoved from the cutoff. He got a call from Ole Schmion in the big blind and a 2.8 million pot was at stake. Schemion showed {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} which dominated the hearts Duvnjak had as well with {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

The {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop was as bad as they could come for Duvnjak. After the {K-Spades} on the turn Duvnjak was already drawing dead and he shook hands with the players before exiting the stage. The {4-Spades} on the river was just a formality.

Zdravko Duvnjak takes home €118,200. He told us he's thinking about going to the PCA in January so we might see him there.

Nível 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Jorma Nuutinen
Jorma Nuutinen

Jorma Nuutinen opened the hijack to 100,000 with {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Right next to him it was Stephen Chidwick in the cutoff who bumped the action to 225,000 with {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}, the same hand. The button and small blind folded but Julian Track was at it again with tens in the big blind. Again he cold four betted to 650,000, this time with {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

Action was right back on the Finnish player and he shoved all in for 1,810,000. Stephen Chidwick thought about it for some time but eventually folded. Action back on chip leader Julian Track who wasn't about to rush his decision. He wasn't happy with the shove and needed some time. He called in the end, but wasn't happily slamming his cards on the table like he did yesterday.

A coin flip situation again for Track and again he wouldn't get into trouble: {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. Nuutinen needed some runner runner but was already drawing dead after the {7-Hearts} hit the turn. The {5-Clubs} on the river was just there to make it official, Nuutinen out first on the final table.

Nuutinen has three EPT Main Event cashes to his name now, all three of them here in Prague:

Nuutinen Doubles Through Silver

Jorma Nuutinen

Max Silver oepned the hijack to 80,000 with {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}. Next door neighbor Jorma Nuutinen shoved all in from the cut off with {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and all players quickly folded to let Silver have the decision again. He thought for a little bit before calling.

Nuutinen was in the lead, but not by much. The flop made things pretty scary for the Finnish player: {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Kings and jacks weren't direct outs anymore for Silver, but all the clubs in the deck would guarantee him the win in the hand and the first scalp of the day.

The {8-Diamonds} on the turn was a complete blank though and equity was shifting even more to Nuutinen. The black ten on the river might have scared him for a second but fortunately for him it was the {10-Spades} and not the {10-Clubs}.

Nuutinen doubled to 1.7 million (42 big blinds), Silver still has 4,985,000 (125 big blinds) left.

Julian Track Leads the PokerStars.net EPT Prague Main Event Final Table

Julian Track
Julian Track

At 12:00 local time (CET) the final table of the PokerStars.net European Poker Tour Main Event will begin. The live stream will begin an hour later at 13:00 local time with cards up coverage. PokerNews coverage will be on the live streamed action to not spoiler the outcome.

Eight players remain from the enormous field of 1,007 runners. The biggest ever EPT in Prague means the biggest ever first prize is going to be awarded today; a staggering €889,000 is awaiting the winner.

The final table has some well known names on it. Many (British) fans will be on the stands for Max Silver. Silver already has an UKIPT and several EPT Side Events titles under his belt, but an EPT crown is still missing in his trophy room. Stephen Chidwick, also from the UK, will be contending Silver's domination. Known online as "stevie444", Chidwick already made a final table here in Prague. He finished third in the Eureka Poker Tour Main Event but now has his eyes set on the real deal.

If you've been watching the live stream here on PokerNews.com you'll recognize all of the players as they've all been already featured on the live streamed table. But even if you haven't watched a second of poker this week yet, there's one more name you'll surely recognize. Ole Schemion is at it again, the German GPI Player of the Year is determined to take this one down. And if a guy like Schemion has set his mind to something, you better watch out if you're competing with him.

Chip leader coming in is another German player: Julian Track. Julian is a mature student at university in Giessen, studying politics, media and sport. He plays online regularly in $1/$2 PLO cash games on PokerStars. He satellited in via PokerStars and has no live results yet. He's about to hit it big though, he's already guaranteed €84,600!
