Maximilian Senft Leads as 230 of 389 Advance from Day 1b

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Maximilian Senft
Maximilian Senft

Day 1a of the Season 10 European Poker Tour London Main Event drew 209 runners and saw Dhru Patel finish the night as chip leader of the 105 survivors with 241,000 in chips. On Monday, 389 players took their shot at EPT glory on Day 1b. After eight 75-minute levels of play, 230 players survived with Maximilian Senft and his stack of 223,000 leading the way.

The tournament attracted some of the biggest names in the game, and they wasted little time in mixing things up, including Senft. In Level 1 he get off to a dream start when he opened for 300 from the hijack and the player in the cutoff three-bet to 700. Yann Dion proceeded to four-bet to 1,800 from the button, the blinds folded, and Senft, who was participating in the Skrill Last Longer Competition, pushed back with a five-bet to 4,400. The cutoff got out of the way and Dion opted for a six-bet to 7,100.

Senft thought for well over two minutes before making the call, and the two saw a flop of {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}{8-Spades}. After two checks, the {Q-Spades} turned and Senft seized the initiative by leading out for 4,000. Dion made the call, the {8-Diamonds} completed the board on the river, and Senft took his time before whispering, "All in."

Dion hit the tank and stared down his Austrian opponent, who was donning sunglasses and a scarf. After 90 seconds or so of contemplation, Dion made the call and Senft proudly turned over the {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} for a full house. Dion shook his head as if to say, "It figures," and then flashed the {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} before sending them to the muck. Dion was eliminated minutes later.

Others who joined him on the rail as the day progressed were Max Silver, who had just finished runner-up to Vanessa Selbst in the UKIPT High Roller; Martin Finger, who took down the Season 10 European Poker Tour London £50,000 Super High Roller a day earlier for £821,000; British pros James Dempsey and Chris Moorman; the well-respected Raj Vorha; current EPT10 Player of the Year leader and November Niner David Benefield; Robbie Bull, who had just won the UKIPT London the day before; and former EPT champs Kevin MacPhee and Kent Lundmark.

On the same token, Team PokerStars Pros Ivan Demidov, Nacho Barbero, Angel Guillen, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Chris Moneymaker, David Williams, Jason Mercier and Vanessa Selbst all failed to survive the night. The same applies to Full Tilt Poker Tour Ambassadors Jonathan Karamalikis and Andras Nemeth.

While many fell on Day 1b, some managed to thrive including Paul Volpe, who was the recipient of some advantageous doubles throughout the day. The first came in Level 3 (100/200) against the aforementioned Nemeth. With 8,000 or so in the pot and a board reading {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, Volpe had check-raised all in for 17,100 and Nemeth thought long and hard before making the call. Volpe rolled over the {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for a straight, and a frustrated Nemeth sent his cards to the muck unseen.

Volpe’s other double came in the last level of the night (Level 8: 300/600/75) when he fired a 2,000 bet on a {3-Spades}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop. Andrew Lowe made it 4,800, the rest of the field folded, and Volpe called to see the {5-Spades} turn. Volpe checked, Lowe bet 12,000, and Volpe moved all in. Lowe snap-called with the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for a flopped set, but Volpe showed {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for the straight. The {6-Hearts} river changed nothing and Volpe went on to finish the night with 96,200.

Others who made it through to Day 2 are Shannon Shorr (88,100), Anton Wigg (88,000), Kyle Julius (86,000), Vanessa Rousso (85,100), Daniel Negreanu (77,800), Dario Minieri (75,600), Marvin Rettenmaier (69,600), Ludovic Lacay (63,800), Andre Akkari (59,300), Barry Greenstein (56,100), Liv Boeree (51,800), Mike McDonald (42,900), Lex Veldhuis (37,200) and Phil Hellmuth (12,600).

The surviving players from both Day 1a and 1b will combined for Day 2 action on Tuesday at Noon local time. Registration is open until the start of play, and we expect a few players to take advantage. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to capture all the action, so be sure to join us then for all the latest and greatest from the EPT10 London Main Event.

Norwegian hip-hop duo Madcon yesterday took on Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree and Friend of PokerStars Charlotte van Brabander in a heads-up battle that those with a delicate constitution would be wise to avoid. Champagne for the winner, jellied eels for the loser. Watch it at the PokerStars Blog.

Four players took a flop if {q-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, including Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst and Jason Tompkins. Tompkins checked, as did another player, and Selbst tossed out 5,500. The action folded back to Tompkins, who check-raised to 13,800, and Selbst moved all in for what looked like 30,000 or so. Tompkins quickly called.

Selbst: {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Tompkins: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The {q-Clubs} on the turn gave Tompkins trips, and took away Selbst's pair outs, and the {k-Diamonds} on the river ended the Team Pro's tournament altogether.

Tompkins chipped up to over six figures.

Shulman Busts in Epic Fashion

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Room View of EPT London Main Event
Room View of EPT London Main Event

Come closer delicious friends and listen to the crazy tale that is Barry Shulman's exit hand. It was relayed to us by Barny Boatman who admitted he'd never seen anything like it.

Barry Shulman had opened to 1,500 preflop. Anton Wigg had called before Ariel Celestino three-bet in position to 5,200. Shulman now called this and then Wigg back-raised to 12,400 in a four-bet.

Celestino folded but then Shulman decided to call this with only 20,000 behind.

The flop was {2-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Shulman checked. Wigg moved all in only to be snap-called.

Wigg showed {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} but he was drawing virtually dead against Shulman's incredibly unlikely holding of {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a flopped straight.

The {10-Clubs} on the turn gave Wigg a flush draw and the {7-Clubs} river made the Swede the nuts from seemingly nowhere to eliminated the former WSOPE Main Event champion. Wigg was up to 85,000 as a result.

Poker, eh? Bloody hell.

Seven players took a flop of {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} moments ago, and the action checked to Byron Kaverman on the button. He tossed out 2,125, and the action folded to Michael Mizrachi, who called.

The turn was the {q-Hearts}, bringing a second heart, and the two-time World Series of Poker $50,000 Poker Players Championship winner led out for 3,600. Kaverman contemplated the bet for 30 seconds or so, then called.

The {5-Hearts} completed the board, bringing a possible flush, and Mizrachi led out again - this time for 12,725. Kaverman went deep into the tank, and the two began bantering back and forth. Finally, Kaverman flashed a smile and pushed his cards forward.

"You fold?" Mizrachi asked, grinning.

Kaverman nodded, pushing his cards further into the muck, and Mizrachi showed {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for threes full of kings.

An Orbit with the the Current EPT10 Player of the Year Leader

Nível 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
David Benefield
David Benefield

David Benefield, a 27-year-old who made his name in the online poker realm, is one of the hottest players in the world right now. Not only is he a member of the 2013 World Series of Poker November Nine as the short stack in the Main Event final table, he currently leads the EPT10 Player of the Year Race. He afinished in fifth-place finish in the EPT10 Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller for €208,150 and seventh in yesterday's EPT10 London €50,000 Super High Roller for €139,600.

We noticed Benefield was on a short stack of 4,650, and thought we'd spend an orbit with the pro. After all, he is the short stack in the November Nine, so we thought we might be able to get some insight on his short stack game.

Hand #1 (early position): The under-the-gun player folded and Benefield did the same.

Hand #2 (Under the Gun): Benefield folded.

Hand #3 (Big Blind): The cutoff folded and action folded to Benefield. He too folded.

Hand #4 (Small Blind): A player in middle position raised to 775 and Benefield folded.

Hand #5 (Button): A player in middle position raised to 700, the cutoff three-bet to 1,200, and Benefield folded. At this time, Benefield struck up a conversation with a member of the 2012 WSOP November Nine, Russell Thomas, who was quick to give Benefield some advice.

"Wear a watch," Thomas said. He then explained how many of last year's November Nine struck deals with watch companies where they received a watch in exchange for wearing one at the final table. According to Thomas, last year's runner-up, Jesse Sylvia (who is also playing in today's field), received a watch worth $20,000 last year.

"I did not foresee that," Thomas said before showing off his own watch and explaining that he had purchased it prior to the final table and learning of possible watch deals. John Juanda then joined the conversation and the three discussed the current sponsorship landscape in the poker industry.

Hand #6 (cutoff): Slaven Popov opened for 750 under the gun only to have Hong Kong's Elton Tsang three-bet to 1,800 from the hijack. Benefield folded, as did the rest of the field, and Popov moved all in for 11,000. Tsang snap-called with the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}, which had Popov's {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} dominated. The board ran out {8-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts} and Popov hit the rail.

Hand #7 (hijack): After the blinds went up, action folded to Benefield and he released his hand. He then began to peruse watches on his mobile device.

Hand #8 (middle position): Two folds put action on Benefield and he once again tossed his cards to the muck.

Hand #9 (early position): Benefield folded.

Hey, we didn't say it was going to be exciting. If anything, it's a testament to Benefield's patience, which will no doubt come in handy come November.

As far as the EPT Player of the Year race is concerned, players will be able to accumulate points in all events throughout Season 10, regardless of the buy-in level. In addition, all of the Festival Events (Estrellas, UKIPT, Eureka, FPS, IPT) that combine with an EPT tour stop will be eligible for Player of the Year points. The winner of this season’s award will walk away with €50,000 in Main Event buy-ins, good for any PokerStars or Full Tilt sponsored event.

The Global Poker Index (GPI) points formula, which will be used to determine the EPT10 POY, is a bit complicated, but you can read about all the details here.

£50,000 Super High Roller Champ Ousted

Martin Finger
Martin Finger

Yesterday, Martin Finger took down the Season 10 European Poker Tour London £50,000 Super High Roller for £821,000, which put him over $2 million in profit for the year. Needless to say, it's been a good 2013 for Finger, who also won a World Series of Poker bracelet. Unfortunately for him, Finger won't be adding a second EPT Main Event title here in London as he was just eliminated.

We missed the action, but we do know that Finger got his last 16,000 all in on the turn with a board reading {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}. Daniel Weinman called him holding the nuts with the {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, and Finger was drawing to a chop with the {10-Spades}{j-Hearts}. The {Q-Diamonds} river was not the king Finger needed and he feel just short of the second break of the day.

The Skrill Last Longer Competition is Back for the EPT London

Nível 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Skrill Last Man Standing promo
Skrill Last Man Standing promo

One name that keeps popping up here at the EPT London is Skrill – which isn’t a player, but rather an online payment solutions company that aims to evolve “the way people pay and get paid globally.” Skrill is branded on each of the tables, and they also have a booth where players can sign up for their popular "Last Longer Competition."

The Skrill Last Longer competition will be held at each stop on this season’s EPT, of which they’re an official sponsor. The promotion is simple – players sign up for the promotion either online (preregistration is available) or at the Skrill booth (which will be present at each stop); don a Skrill patch; and then aim to be the last man or woman standing. The last player remaining will then receive the £5,250 buy-in back in their Skrill account.

While Skrill is upping the ante for Season 10 with a bigger branding initiative, this isn’t their first appearance on the EPT; as a matter of fact, they were a sponsor of Season 8 and have held previous “Last Longer” promotions (the most successful being in EPT Copenhagen when one of their players took second).

The company’s website provides a bit more information on Skrill, which rebranded from Moneybookers back in 2010:

“Skrill has been moving money digitally since 2001. We offer online payment solutions for businesses and consumers, allowing them to pay and get paid globally. Over 36 million account holders already trust Skrill. Our customers can send and receive money worldwide in 200 countries and 40 currencies, securely and at low cost, without revealing their personal financial details. Your business will benefit from our worldwide payment network with over 100 payment options. Whether through a simple one-step integration or a fully-tailored payment solution. Whoever you are, however you like to pay or get paid, trust Skrill to make your online payments simpler, faster and safer.”

Headquartered in London, Skrill is looking to make their presence known in the poker world with a commitment to customer satisfaction through innovation and service. Not only that, they’re looking to be more than just a company by becoming a trusted and respected member of the poker community.

The following 39 players are currently a part of the Skrill Last Longer here in London, though registration is open through the close of the dinner break on Day 1b:

Dylan Linde, Anthony Wright, George Manolache, Kenneth Kui, Alexander Schilt, Sebastian Muller, Bart Moens
Mateusz Zbikowski, Sven Reichardt, Fergal Nealon, Kevin Vandermissen, Tom Hall, Leo McClean, Jesper Hoog, Karl Andre Oddsen, Carlos Chadha, Wojtek Barzantny, Dimitrios Farmakoulis, Christoph Weckmann, Immanuel Siebert, Niccolo Caramato, Mustapha Kanit, Rumit Somaiya, Gaetano Dell'aero, Fabian Gentile, Daniel Carlsson, Marc Gets, Antonio Buonanno, Jan Bendik, Wang Hung Tu, Maximilian Senft, Slaven Popov, Thomas Ward, Giacomo Fundaro, James Parker, Joni Jouhkimainen, Aidan Tam, Kenny Hallaert and Kevin MacPhee.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be keeping an eye on the latest incarnation of the Skrill Last Longer throughout the duration of the EPT London Main Event.

Robbie Bull Wins UKIPT London Main Event for £113,405

Nível 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Robbie Bull is the latest UKIPT champion!
Robbie Bull is the latest UKIPT champion!

It was a busy day in London on Sunday. Not only did the Season 10 European Poker Tour London Main Event kick off, but also Martin Finger took down the £50,000 Super High Roller for £821,000. Phil Hellmuth and Vanessa Selbst also collected titles, and with so many big names capturing the spotlight, it was easy to overlook the conclusion of the UKIPT London Main Event.

That tournament attracted 747 entries and created a prize pool of £724,590. After five days of play, 21-year-old Robbie Bull emerged victorious to capture the £113,405 first-place prize and become the third Scotsman in a row to win a UKIPT title (Ludovic Geilich won in Marbella and Alan Gold in Galway).

Bull began the final table sixth in chips, but he got off to a quick start. He ultimately made it to heads-up play against Irish Poker Open champ Ian Simpson.

Simpson began with a small lead over Bull, and the two opted to strike a deal. There was originally £53,475 in prize money between first and second place, but the two closed the gap. Simpson locked up £106,869.23, Bull received £103,405.77, and they played it out for the trophy and £10,000.

From there, Bull took over and pulled out to a huge chip lead. Simpson battled back, and after an hour of play held a 2-1 lead over Bull. After a break, Bull four-bet jammed with the {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Simpson called with the {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. The board ran out {j-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Bull’s flush gave him the double.

Minutes later, Simpson raised to 375,000 and Bull three-bet all in. Simpson called off with the {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, and it was ahead of Bull’s {a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. The {j-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop wasn’t very special, and while the {A-Diamonds} turn paired both players, Simpson’s kicker had him out in front. The {8-Diamonds} river actually gave Simpson two pair, but it was no good as Bull had spiked a flush to win the UKIPT London Main Event.

"It's a dream [to win] I've had for three or four years,” Bull told the PokerStars Blog after the win. “When I play a live event in the back of my mind there's ‘I might win it’ but now I feel like I'm dreaming and might wake up and find the UKIPT is next week.”

Robbie BullSweet jesus. Dream final table. Everything went my way. Can't think straight right now. Thanks for all the support and messages ya legends.
