$10,600 Main Event

Dia 1a Iniciado

Welcome to Day 1a of the 2015 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event

Welcome to the 2015 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event! For the past week and a half, many of the series' 21 events have been playing out at the Crown Melbourne, and there have been some notable winners including Vic Spadavecchia, who topped a massive field of 1,211 entrants to win AU$1,150 Opening event for AU$215,000, and the talkative Oliver Gill, who won Event #3: $2,500 8-Game Mixed for $38,815.

Today's Day 1a field marks the first of three starting flights, and if history is any indication it will be the smallest. Despite that, we're expecting a solid mix of amateurs and pros from around the world. Some of the big names that are in the "Land Down Under" are recent PCA $100,000 Super High Roller champ Steve O'Dwyer; German pro Tobias Reinkemeier; the UK's Stephen Chidwick; the red-hot Pratyush Buddiga; and Australian Alex Trevallion.

In fact, all of those players found themselves at last night's $25,000 Challenge final table. That tournament attracted a massive 104 players and created a prize pool of AU$2,496,000. In the end, it came down to Reinkemeier and Trevallion, who struck a deal heads up. They left AU$40,000 to play for, and in the end it was Trevallion who walked away with the title for AU$645,150 while Reinkemeier had to settle for runner-up and a AU$614,850 consolation prize. It proved to be a great event – up from 68 entries last year – and an excellent stepping stone into the Main Event.

Others currently at the 2015 Aussie Millions are defending champ Ami Barer, who defeated a field of 668 entrants last year to win AU$1.6 million; Mike "Timex" McDonald; Scott Seiver; Erik Seidel; Jackie Glazier; [Removed:17]; Dan Smith; Connor Drinan; Patrik Antonius; Dan Heimiller; Xuan Liu; and many more.

There's also a rumor we'll see last year's AU$250,000 Challenge champ Phil Ivey in action at some point in the Main Event, though it might have to wait until Day 1c. That's because also starting today is the AU$100,000 Challenge, an event sure to attract some of the bigger names. Of course PokerNews will be bringing you live updates from that event as well.

The plan for the day is to play seven 75-minute levels with a 15-minute break after each. There will also be a 75-minute dinner break at the end of Level 4.

2005 World Series of Poker Main Event champ and Australia's pride and joy Joe Hachem is slated to give the traditional "Shuffle up and deal" at 12:30 p.m. local time, which is a few hours from now. Be sure to check back then as we bring you all the action and eliminations straight from the floor of the 2015 Aussie Millions Poker Championships.

Joe Hachem Gives Shuffle Up and Deal

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The Crown Poker Room is abuzz this afternoon with players spread about for today's various events. In regards to the AU$10,000 Main Event, 2005 World Series of Poker champ Joe Hachem joined Crown's Jim Preston on the stage to give the traditional "Shuffle up and deal."

Hachem also revealed that he recently invested in a restaurant here in Melbourne with his family. Rest assured PokerNews will bring you more on that later this week. For now, cards are in the air in the 2015 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event, and we're headed out to the field to see who has decided to give it a go on Day 1a.

Who's About?

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Around 120 players have taken their seats here on the opening flight of the Aussie Millions Main Event. There's excitement in the air and the atmosphere is full of hope as everybody's dream of following Ami Barer is still intact.

The AU$100k Challenge may be robbing the very biggest names (for now) from the Main Event but the list below highlights the talent still on show today.

Checking It Down with Jack Salter

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Back in October, Jack Salter had some major success here at Crown Melbourne when he finished runner-up to Scott Davies in the 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Main Event for $448,714. Both men are in the room today, though in separate events. Davies is currently at the final table of a preliminary event, while Salter is in action here on Day 1a.

In a recent hand, a player limped and was met by a raise to 600 by Salter on the button. Both blinds folded, the limper called, and it was heads-up action to the {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} flop. Two checks followed, and then that action repeated itself on the {6-Hearts} turn and {10-Diamonds} river. Salter showed the {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} for the nut no pair, but it was no good as his opponent had paired up on the turn holding the {a-Spades}{6-Spades}.

Blain's Lets One Go

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Dermot Blain is one of Ireland's best poker players and he fins himself at one of the trickiest tables in the room with Matthew Aston and Jorn Walthaus for company.

His play had been aggressive from the off and was proving profitable until he had to let a hand go on the river when battling heads up with his neighbour to his right.

He three-bet his opponent's opening raise of 250 up to 700. Blain saw this raise and bets of 800 and 1,750 called as the board rolled out as {j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Things changed on the river though as Blain faced a 2,800 bet that made his mind up to fold.

Mackoff Finding the Right Mix

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jonas Mackoff is having a great Aussie Millions festival. He came fifth in the AU$2,500 8-game event before winning a ring by taking down the AU$2,500 H.O.R.S.E event.

He only has one game to worry about today and it's working out well for him as he's already up to around 45,000 chips after getting an opponent to fold on the river of a big pot.

Around 20,000 had made it into the middle by the time the board rested as {8-Spades}{10-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{q-Spades}. Mackoff was on the button and bet 8,000 after his small blinded opponent checked to him. The fold was quick in coming and the Canadian rising star raked in a very healthy pot for this stage of the tournament.
